Making Good Choices When No One’s Watching

Making Good Choices When No One’s Watching

As a team of athletes, we know that what we do when no one is watching defines our character. We choose to practice even when it’s uncomfortable, maintain our bikes and bodies, and hold ourselves accountable. These small, unseen actions build the foundation for success when we’re in front of a crowd.

Making good choices away from the spotlight helps us stay true to our values. We say no to distractions that could hinder our progress, whether it’s skipping training, staying out too late, or engaging in harmful behaviors. By choosing discipline and integrity, we strengthen our resolve as individuals and as a team.

When we visit schools, we share stories about the decisions we make in private that keep us ready for the stage. Students are often surprised to learn that the excitement of a big trick begins with a quiet commitment to hard work and responsibility. Our hope is that they see the link between unseen choices and public achievements.

We remind ourselves that character is measured by how we act when no one is looking. Even when we’re off the ramps, we pick up trash after practice, support our teammates, and give our best effort in all parts of our lives. These habits create a culture of respect and kindness that resonates through our performances.

By consistently making good choices behind the scenes, we become stronger athletes and better people. We encourage students to reflect on their own daily decisions and how those choices shape their future. When you commit to doing the right thing even when no one is watching, you set yourself on a path toward real goals and lasting success.
